Science Fair
2025 Griffin PTO Science Fair
Date: April 17th 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Location: Griffin School Gym
Information for Registered Participants - Email Sent 4/3/25
- Due to the number of projects, please make sure that you arrive at the Griffin gym between 5-5:15. If you/your child will need extra preparation time, please feel free to arrive earlier! We can always use some extra hands to help set up, too!
- We hope to get started with the welcome and evaluations as close as possible to 5:30 pm. If you are the first one in your age group to sign in, you will likely be first! Be ready!
- Students must be present at the start and at the time of evaluation (which won't be exact). It is highly encouraged that students stay for the presentation of awards at 7:30 (or earlier, depending on the number of volunteer evaluators). We also have three "fan favorite" trophies (thank you to Grindstaff's) so we will be asking everyone present to walk around to view the projects and vote for their favorites; we therefore encourage students to stay for the whole time. We will have a couple activities for students, but we encourage you to bring activities as well that students can do during any downtime.
- We still need volunteers to help as community encouragers/evaluators! Please email joanna.carns@gmail.com if you are interested! It's very easy, and no science knowledge is required!
- Because the expectation is that families will be staying for the whole event, we have worked with Tawnya White, Griffin Food Services Administrator, who will be holding a lasagna dinner fundraiser that night. For $12, you will get a to-go plate of lasagna, green beans, and garlic bread! Please email twhite@griffinschool.us before April 15 to let her know that you will be buying a plate, how many, and whether you want meat or cheese lasagna. This is an easy, delicious way to support the school! Griffin PTO will also be selling concessions (drinks, chips, snacks).
- Mrs. Potkonjak and PTO Coordinator Joanna Carns are hosting a "maker night" for the presentation boards on Wednesday, April 9, from 5-7 in the fifth grade pods. This is optional, not mandatory. Components that need to be on the boards can be found in the Scientist Packet (attached). But if you want some help, come on by! Mrs. P recommends that people type up, print, and bring their information with them to put on the boards; if you need something printed, you can email it to her (wpotkonjak@griffinschool.us).
- PTO Coordinator Joanna Carns will send the list of registered students to the Griffin teachers and ask that interested students be given the opportunity to share their projects with the class during the week of the Science Fair. Students put so much work into their projects and this is a great opportunity to share science learning with their peers! If your student is particularly interested, please also reach out to their teacher.
- NEW! Students (and their families) are welcome and encouraged to dress up in a science-themed costume! Animals, dinosaurs, aliens, robots, mad scientists, and more are welcome! There may be a prize for best costume (wink wink)!
